Samburu Serena Lodge
The Serena Samburu Lodge is situated on the wooded banks of the Uaso Nyiro River, in the heart of the rugged, semi-arid Samburu Game Reserve. The park preserves the natural balance that existed betwen the local Samburu tribes and the wildlife which ranges from elephant, buffalo and lion to a wide range of birdlife. All guest rooms have a private verandah that overlook the river where crocodile feed in full view. The park is renowned for rare game - the long-necked gerenuk, Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe and Besia oryx. Leopard are frequently seen resting in the branches of the riverine trees. Game drives and bird-watching safaris are the ideal way to experience the native wildlife in its natural splendour and a visit to a nearby Samburu manyatta gives insight into how these nomads manage to survive in such apparently hostile surroundings.
There are 62 rooms, including 8 family rooms. Champagne breakfasts and cocktail parties overlooking the aptly-named Crocodile Point, moonlit dinners in the bush and beside the river. Swimming pool. Beauty Therapy: a fully qualified beauty therapist will advise what treatment will suite you best or you can take a relaxing massage. Camel Ride: 20 to 30 minutes in the vicinity of the lodge. Samburu Dance: local moran (young men) and maidens from a nearby manyatta perform traditional Samburu dances every afternoon. Qualified naturalist leads bird-sighting walks on the lodge grounds. Expert slide shows/lectures are given every evening.
