Azores details
The Azores (Açores) lie in the North Atlantic almost due west of Portugal of which they are part of. Some believe that the lost world of Atlantis was once found here. The beautifully located town of Sete Cidades on São Miguel island is named after the seven cities of Atlantis. A sub-tropical maritime climate gives the Azores year-round pleasant temperatures with some rain in most months and occasional storms in the winter with the highest peak, Pico (2351m), even catching some snow.

Volcanoes, craters, some with beautiful lakes, hot springs and high cliffs abound. Our trips are based at good quality hotels and allow for guided or unguided private trips year round, we also offer a guided scheduled trip that includes the ascent of Pico - the highest summit in the Azores and also the highest in Portugal.

Peles Castle

Romania : Bucegi to Fagaras details
Travelling through the Romanian Carpathians is a journey in history.
This vehicle supported trek provides a wonderfully varied trip which starts with a visit to the magnificent Peles Castle. Airy ridges, pine and beech forests, remote mountain villages whose life style takes you back 100 years are combined with a high quality and caring local service. For some the highlight of the trip is spending a night with a family in a Romanian mountain village for others it is the traverse of the main Fagaras Ridge - this is one of Europe's longest high altitude walks and it takes in Moldoveanu, 2544m, or 8480ft., the highest summit in Romania. Walking is generally on good paths but fitness is required for some longer days and there are some very short sections of easy scrambling.

Bulgaria : Ski and Trek
We use two major bases for our trips here.

In Borovets we use the magnificent, four star Samokov Hotel or the three star Rila Hotel for our summer and winter trips. The Samokov is the start of our Rila Mountain and Pirin Mountain Trek details .

In winter we offer flexible, small group or family skiing holidays. In summer we offer mountain holidays based at the hotel or health treatment programmes.

The ancient small mountain resort of Bansko is our other base - here there are several excellent hotels of different standards. These can be used an a base for summer trekking in the Pirin mountains or for skiing. The pistes as Bansko, although not extensive, are some of the best in Bulgaria offering fine steep skiing and magnificent off-piste skiing as well as a good ski school and basic facilities for beginners. See Bulgaria Home Page for more details.

Russia
We specialise in several areas of this vast country - ranging from the fairly accessible and very popular Caucasus mountains with Elbrus the highest point in Europe to the more remote Kamchatka and Tuva. Kamchatka is a land of wild animals, volcanoes and hot springs. Tuva, lies just north of Mongolia and combines an exotic culture with some excellent wilderness walking and simple mountaineering. Fresh snow in Tatra

Traverse of High Tatra & Prague details
The High Tatra, the highest and most majestic part of the Carpathians, are a natural barrier dividing Slovakia to the south and Poland. The character of many of the small villages surrounding the area has changed little over the years and the colourful local traditions have been well-preserved. Our treks in the High Tatra are combined with sightseeing visits to the historic cities of Cracow and Prague.

This is a very high quality, vehicle supported trek. We fly (BA) into Warsaw in Poland and leave via Prague. Optional opportunity to climb Gerlach - the highest summit in the Tatra 2654m
