The Meru Mount Kenya Bandas are located at about 3000m altitude in the Parklands, by the park gate on the Chogoria Route. The drive to the bandas is along a rough track leading for 22 kms. from Chogoria Village through the magnificent forest belt. A great variety of wild life may be seen in the vicinity of the bandas - especially in the early morning or evening, especially buffalo, bucks, antelopes and monkeys. If you are lucky you may see some elephant. Each hut (banda) provides beds with clean sheets, blankets and towels. Hot water showers and a roaring fire are easily organised - at night the temperature outside drops to about 5°C.

The walk to the roadhead and campsite near the Nithi Gates follows a rough track through magnificent countryside (see photo) and takes about three hours, it is possible to drive. An alternative less used route passes the Urumandi Hut where the path crosses a natural rock bridge over the stream.
