Some Background Information and other trips
Turkish history goes back many millenia and has been enriched and influenced by its key location lying on a cross roads between north and south - Africa and Europe, and between east and west - the Black Sea countries and the Mediterranean.

Several great mountain ranges cut the high Anatolian plateau that makes up the bulk of the land mass. In the south the High Tauros (Toros) mountains, in the north-east the verdant Kackar (Kaçkar) and the isolated twin summits of the great volcano Ararat. In the heart of Turkey lies Cappadocia (Kapadokya) a unique region of volcanic tuffa ridges that have been the home to several different civilizations who have carved their homes and fortresses out of the soft cliffs and fairyland rock towers.

The south coast is an intricate region of inlets, bays and beaches with numerous small islands set in a turquise sea. The area is historically important and rich with numerous ancient ruins of cities such as Xanthos, Olympos and Patara, dating back to the Greek and Roman times. The recently developed Lycian Way winds its way through these areas taking in the best mountains, coastlines and ancient monuments.

We have designed the following trips in Turkey to combine the best trekking, wildlife viewing & mountaineering with a taste of the rich culture.

  • Lycian Way The recently developed, 509km long, Lycian Way is a waymarked trek winding its way through the south coast mountains and coastlines taking in the best mountains, wild beaches and ancient monuments. We offer a wide variety of services including personalised guiding and support. Lycian Way
  • Mount Ararat. This trip is suitable for those who have previous high altitude experience and know they acclimatise well. As with the previous Taurus - Ararat programme it includes visits to Istanbul and Van. Ararat Details
Note: Ararat requires the use of crampons and walking poles but previous experience in the use of them is not essential. In fact Ararat is an excellent training mountain for those interested in going on to higher and more demanding sumits such as Elbrus, Peak Lenin or Kilimanjaro.
  • Cappadocia. This trip is designed as a short break that can be taken at any time of year. It can even be done in winter on snow shoes! Cappadocia
  • Yacht and trek. This combines the luxury of life on a yacht (a journey referred to as the Blue Cruise or Blue Voyage) with short (generally half day) treks on beautiful coastal paths visiting ancient ruins, churches and other sights of interest along the way. Plenty of time to relax and or swim. Yacht and Trek, Cappadocia, Yacht and Trek.
